A wide range of Yemeni youth, both male and female, suffer from difficult and sometimes challenging circumstances, due to economic or other reasons, such as poverty, destitution, and a severe shortage of essential needs. This can directly be attributed to widespread illiteracy among them and the resultant lack of meaningful employment, to support themselves and their families, especially girls.

Universal Group belief in corporate social responsibility, which it has been practicing for a long period, felt that it has become necessary to establish an affiliated foundation, which can efficiently run various institutes to enhance literacy levels among the poor, and also provide trainings in various vocations such as embroidery, sewing and handicrafts etc. This foundation will try to focus on untapped human resource properly and effectively to get the most benefit of it in the development and progress of the underprivileged. Hoping that this all round support for the young will help them to be rehabilitated and also train and assist them in obtaining appropriate work, either in Yemen or other GCC countries. Al Khair Foundation for Social Development was founded in 24/7/2009.
